My book is about representation in media and finding yourself in your favorite characters. The subjects of my book are my friends who frequently cosplay. I chose them for this project for that reason. They all chose characters they relate to and I took photos using a studio light. I wanted a shadow on half their faces so the photos would not be so plain. The photos were also taken at my house so the atmosphere was very comfortable. In the book one page has a portrait of their face while the other page has a couple photos of them smiling or posing differently. I wanted to have this contrast to show how we were having fun. I took some photos while laughing too so many of the photos of my friends laughing I was also laughing. I don't usually photograph people and honestly don't prefer so with this project I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and push myself to do something I normally would not have done. I'm very happy with the photos and I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone because it helped me improve my portraits.
